Sri Lanka (or Ceylon) has been A trademark for Cinnamon for centuries. When Portugese tradres first arrived in Ceylon at the beginning of the sixteenth century, they restructured the traditional production and management of cinnamon in the Island.
In 1658, a Dutch captain has reported "The shores of the Island are full of it, and it is the best in all the Orient: when one is downwind of the Island, one can still smell cinnamon eight leagues out to sea".
